YOUR BALLET FUTURE IN VIENNA STARTS HERE.
International admissions, personalised accommodation guidance and support with the documentation needed to explore studying ballet in Austria.
Section A
A World of Ballet in One City
Study ballet in one of the world’s most liveable cities
Imagine beginning your day in a city where music has shaped generations, where historic theatres stand alongside magnificent architecture, and where artistic tradition is part of everyday life.
Imagine developing your ballet technique in Vienna — a city celebrated for its cultural heritage, exceptional quality of life and enduring connection to the performing arts.
At Wiener Ballettakademie, your education takes place in an environment where the pursuit of artistic excellence meets the experience of living in one of Europe’s great cultural capitals.
Vienna offers more than a place to study. It offers inspiration beyond the studio: concert halls, museums, opera, historic streets, parks and a rich international cultural landscape.
For an aspiring ballet dancer, this is an opportunity to discover not only the discipline of classical dance, but also the world of art, music and theatre that surrounds it.
Your journey is about more than mastering technique. It is about discovering your artistic voice, broadening your horizons and preparing for the possibilities ahead.
Welcome to Vienna. Welcome to your next chapter in ballet.

Section B
International Admissions
Students from all over the world apply to the eight-grade pathway and to Stage Education. The process is deliberately conversational: we want to understand the dancer before we talk about paperwork.
Enquiry and conversation
You tell us who is applying, where you are applying from and what you hope to achieve. We answer practical questions — about grades, weekly schedules, language and life in Vienna — before anything is submitted.
Application and documents
The online application asks for the student’s details, ballet background and international information. Supporting material such as a CV, certificates or a short audition video helps us evaluate quickly and fairly.
Evaluation and audition
Depending on the grade and the applicant’s location, evaluation takes the form of an in-person assessment class, a video audition or an individual assessment. We look at technique, musicality, physical readiness and concentration.
Placement decision
The artistic team recommends a grade. Placement is based on readiness rather than age alone, and is discussed openly with the student and family before it is confirmed.
Enrolment and arrival
Once a place is accepted, we confirm the schedule, the contract and the payment arrangements in writing, and coordinate the documentation the family needs for travel and residence where this is legally applicable.
Section C
Visa and Residence Permit Guidance
Austrian entry and residence rules are specific, and the routes are not interchangeable. The correct route depends on the applicant’s age, purpose of stay, nationality and personal circumstances — and it is decided by the Austrian authorities, not by the academy.
Visa and residence guidance is a subject of its own, so it has its own page: the four Austrian routes, the documents involved, what the academy can and cannot do, and the rules for minors.

A Place to Learn. A Place to Live. A Place to Belong.
Moving to another country is an important step, especially for a young dancer. At Wiener Ballettakademie, we understand that finding a suitable living environment is an essential part of preparing for ballet education abroad. Our team discusses accommodation needs individually with each international student and their family, taking into consideration age, personal circumstances, preferences and available arrangements. For adult students, and for minors who move to Vienna together with a parent or legal guardian, the academy arranges furnished apartments in Vienna, within easy reach of the studio. Accommodation options, costs and conditions are discussed personally during the admissions process.
A student under 18 may not live in Vienna alone: a minor studies here only together with a parent or legal guardian who lives with them and takes responsibility for their care. The academy does not act as a legal guardian, host family or supervisor outside class hours. Accommodation is arranged individually and is never automatically included in tuition, and the academy does not promise an academy-owned residence, permanent housing availability or meals unless such an arrangement has been confirmed in writing.
Section E
International Student Life
Discovering Vienna
Between classes, the city opens up: the Staatsoper, the Musikverein, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Naschmarkt and the vineyards on the edge of town are all part of student life here.
Cultural experiences
Standing places at the opera, student tickets, museum evenings and free concerts make an artistic education affordable and constant.
Daily life in Austria
Practical, calm and well organised. Students learn how Austrian daily rhythms work — from shop hours to registration appointments — with guidance from the academy team.
Transport and mobility
Vienna’s public transport network reaches the studio quickly from almost every district, and student travel cards make daily journeys straightforward.
Personal independence
Living abroad builds independence faster than anything else. We encourage students to take responsibility for their schedule, their equipment and their wellbeing, with support available when it is needed.
Language and international community
Classes are taught in English and German, and the student body is international. Learning German alongside ballet training makes daily life and future work in Austria easier.
Preparation before arrival
We discuss what to arrange before travelling: documents, insurance, accommodation conversations, what to bring and what to buy in Vienna.
Communication with families
For younger students, we keep families informed about attendance, progress and practical matters, and we agree the communication channel and frequency in advance.
Balancing training and wellbeing
Pre-professional training is demanding. Rest, nutrition, medical care and honest conversation about load are treated as part of the education, not as an afterthought.
