Teaching is your passion — but does each class pay off? A simple calculation for dance, Pilates and yoga teachers in Vienna: room cost, break-even point and how to grow without risk.

Many teachers know exactly how to run a class — and have no idea whether it actually earns them anything. Let's fix that in five minutes.

Step 1: Know Your Room Cost

At the Wiener Ballettakademie, room cost is simple: €20 (55 m²), €25 (90 m²) or €30 (100 m²) per hour, including up to 10 participants. Book one hour, pay for one hour.

Step 2: Find Your Break-Even

Break-even students = room cost ÷ price per student.

  • €25 room, €15 per student → 2 students cover the room
  • €20 room, €12 per student → 2 students
  • €30 room, €18 per student → 2 students

Every student after that is income — before your own costs like taxes, insurance and music licences, which you should calculate separately.

Step 3: See the Monthly Picture

Example: one weekly 60-minute class in Studio 2 (€25), 8 students at €15:

  • Income per class: €120
  • Room cost per class: €25
  • Per month (4 classes): €480 income, €100 room → €380 before your other costs

Step 4: Grow Without Risk

  • Class full? Add a second weekly time instead of moving to a lease.
  • Group growing past 10? Remember +€5 per extra person per hour — adjust your price slightly.
  • Quiet summer? Book fewer hours. No empty rent to pay.

Step 5: Price Packages, Not Single Classes

10-class cards or monthly memberships keep income steady and make planning your studio bookings easier.

Ready to test a new class? Find a weekly slot in the booking calendar. Your studio is reserved as soon as the online payment is completed.

Selecting the Right Space for Your Class Size

Matching your studio choice to your class size is the secret to maximizing your hourly profit. Our facility offers five distinct rooms: Studio 5 is a 55 m² space perfect for intimate Pilates or yoga sessions, while our larger halls, Studio 1 and Studio 4 (both 100 m²), provide the necessary room for larger groups, rehearsals, or energetic dance choreographies. Studios 2 and 3 sit in the middle at 90 m² each.

Do not pay for space you do not need. If you have four students, Studio 5 at €20 is your best financial choice. However, if your group reaches 15 people, moving into a 100 m² studio (Studio 1 or 4) for €30 provides enough room to keep your participants comfortable without sacrificing your margin. Remember, every studio includes full-wall mirrors, sound systems, and ballet barres as part of the price, so you are never paying extra for equipment essentials.

Understanding the Pricing Structure

One common mistake is worrying about "peak time" surcharges. At the Wiener Ballettakademie, we keep it simple: the price per hour remains consistent whether you book at 08:00 on a Tuesday or 20:00 on a Saturday. We are open from 07:00 to 22:00, seven days a week, allowing you to fit classes into your schedule exactly where your students are available.

Your base booking covers up to 10 participants. If your group grows larger, you simply add €5 per extra person per hour to your own calculations. By knowing this threshold in advance, you can adjust your student prices or class capacity limit before you hit a bottleneck. This predictability allows you to scale your business upward without worrying about hidden administrative fees or surprise holiday price hikes.

Optimizing Your Schedule with Half-Day Blocks

Sometimes, a single hour is not enough for a workshop or a series of back-to-back sessions. If you are planning an intensive Sunday morning or a series of masterclasses, you can book half-day (4 hours) or full-day (8 hours) blocks directly through our online system. By grouping your classes together, you can reduce the transition time between sessions and streamline your workflow.

Using our live availability calendar, you can secure these blocks instantly. Please remember that our system operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Unpaid requests do not hold a room, so ensure your online card payment is completed at the time of booking to guarantee your spot for the entire duration of your event.

Strategic Location and Accessibility

Your students need to get to you easily, and our location at Längenfeldgasse 27, 1120 Wien, is designed for convenience. Being just a five-minute walk from the Längenfeldgasse U-Bahn station (U4 and U6) makes us highly accessible from almost any part of the city. We are also well-served by tram 62 and the Badner Bahn (WLB).

When choosing your teaching time, consider the commute for your students. If you target working professionals, booking evening slots ensures they can reach the studio shortly after finishing their day. If you serve students during the day, the proximity to major transit lines ensures they can arrive on time without the stress of navigating complex parking situations.

The Promotional Discount Opportunity

We are always looking to showcase the vibrant community of teachers at our academy. If you are confident in your teaching style and would like to save on your studio costs, we offer a 10% discount to any renter who agrees to let the academy film or photograph their session for our promotional use. This is a mutually beneficial arrangement that keeps your overheads low while letting us capture the energy of active, professional classes.

If you are interested in this option, please review the requirements carefully before confirming your booking. It is a fantastic way to lower your "Break-Even" threshold by an additional 10%, effectively putting more money in your pocket every time you teach. Combined with our existing studio rates, it is one of the most effective ways to make your independent dance or fitness business more profitable.
